Klein (London / UK)
Saturday, 4 November, 23:00 – late, Studio 672, # 6 Clubnight pres. by Cologne Sessions, Live
South London based musician Klein is an artist whose neoteric vision has seen her quickly become one of the UK’s most intriguing and unpinnable producers and performers. Her often playful and restive approach to composition is instantly alluring. Samples of obscure Nigerian B-Movies clatter into jagged beats. Distant piano loops lurk in the haze whilst beguiling vocals fade in and out of the sensory world she has created. While her first releases have gained her early fans like Björk, Laurel Halo and Dev Hynes, her Hyperdub debut Tommy marks Klein’s deepest plunge yet into the “deep, dark ocean“ of her musical imagination.
“[…] a feast of urbane imagination, coining a naturally complex, nuanced style of collaged composition that feels something like a more modern, London-based example of Matana Roberts’ travelogues hacked up by Mica Levi and D/P/I, or what might happen if Laurel Halo and Dean Blunt made a record together. […] highly distinguished, instinctively original stuff.” – BOOMKAT
